Who Has the Best Green Chile Cheeseburger in New Mexico?

Nibbles
The slogan of this compact restaurant a small diner, really on the front of the menu is “You Don't Have to Miss the Flavor of Mexico.”

Wild West is worth navigating Wyoming
There is a stretch of Wyoming that seems to be always under construction, with new buildings and strip malls blossoming like dandelions for the past year. Even if residential neighbors are not impressed by the convenience of a UPS Store and a Kelly's nearby, a new restaurant like the Wild West Cafe should get their attention.

Old House has prices, attitude to match
The Old House has one of Santa Fe's most attractive dining rooms. The large, quiet space, beautifully decorated with contemporary and traditional Southwestern art, sets off the tables with their white cloths and sparking place setting. It's a shame that the food and service aren't quite as elegant. There's work to be done here.

Nibbles
You can elect a meat-and-cheese sandwich on a roll such as the $12.95 Sinatra (imported Parma prosciutto and fresh mozzarella with extra virgin olive oil) or the $8.95 DiMaggio (pastrami, ham, Genoa salami, provolone, black olives and mild peppers). Those are OK. You'll walk away full but ... clean.

66 Diner piles on classic comfort food
Like the Grinch in the Christmas cartoon from my younger days, I felt my heart grow three sizes the first time I saw the “Teeny-Weeny Sundae” on the menu at the 66 Diner. Since my first visit years ago, it has continued to show its charms, even while maintaining a façade that pleases every tourist who comes to Albuquerque.

Corral the finest beef at the Bull Ring
In business for five decades, The Bull Ring is one of Santa Fe's oldest restaurants. The keys to its longevity in a business where many contenders don't survive are consistency and quality. Ask us locals where to get a good steak, and The Bull Ring will always be among the handful of recommendations.

Nibbles: Asian Noodle Bar
There's something great about going to an Asian restaurant with a buddy. Unlike a classic American spot, where you get sides of potatoes or salad, when you order the pad thai at someplace like the Asian Noode Bar, that's all you get. So take a buddy and share and hope he or she orders something tasty like the beef fried rice.

Chili? Chile? No matter; spell it 'delicious'
Even though I intended a visit, I never ate at the Bombay Grill over on the south edge of Corrales. It seems that I wasn't alone, as it did ultimately slow down and then close down. In the usual cycle of economics, the building has been reborn as a couple of retail shops as well as the newest hot spot for indulging in our state fruit, the chile.

Day or night, the perfect burger awaits
One of the best hamburgers I ever had was at a boisterous sports bar in Los Angeles, about 15 minutes from LAX. I'd been out of the country for about three weeks, eating exotic dishes with unpronounceable names. I arrived exhausted and famished. Nothing could have tasted better, or more like America, than that burger. With cheese and fries on the side. The only thing missing was a layer of fresh green chile.

Nibbles - Model Pharmacy
It was a tough choice, but I had to make it: To share or not to share two gourmet sandwiches with my family. One was the ham with melted brie and roast peppers on a toasted baguette coated with blackberry mustard ($8.95). The other was the slow-cooked, like-bubbe-used-to-make brisket on a French roll ($8.95).
